RISE BREWERY 1926 - 1961
HISTORY
Rise Brewery first opened its doors to beer taps back in 1926 and up until 1961. During these years, white beer, Easter beer and Stakit beer were brewed. In 1934, production was expanded to include ice cream production and in the 1950s, soda production was added.
During the war in the 1940s, the brewery could not maintain production as they could not get enough coal. Instead, tobacco was grown in the fields behind the brewery, harvested and dried and later sold as raw tobacco.
BEER AND TOBACCO
Rise Bryggeri A/S reopened in 2004 as a limited company. In 2012, Janni Bidstrup chose to resume outdoor tobacco cultivation and, alongside her job as director of the brewery, makes hand-rolled Ærø Cigars. This provides a good synergy for the brewery and Ærø Cigar by offering both beer tasting and tours from "Seeds to Cigar" for buses and groups etc.
In 2020, the brewery chose to change its name from Rise Bryggeri to Ærø bryggeri and this year, June 1, 2024, the brewery celebrates its 20th anniversary with the release of an anniversary beer and beer and hand sandwiches in the garden.
